Susan Sarandon Apologizes for Post Mocking NYPD Funeral
Actress Susan Sarandon has saidsorry after making a questionable Twitter post that buffooned a funeralservice for a killed NYPD officer.
On Feb. 4, the Oscar-award-winning starlet composed: “I deeply remorse the meme I justrecently shared on Twitter that consistedof a image of Officer Jason Rivera’s funeralservice.”
“I responded rapidly to the photo without linking it to a cops funeralservice and I understand now how insensitive and deeply ill-mannered it was to make that point at that time,” stated Sarandon, a longtime left-wing activist who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2 governmental projects. “I regards saysorry to the household of Officers Rivera and Mora for triggering extra discomfort throughout their time of grieving.”
Sarandon, 74, triggered outrage after she buffooned the funeral, which revealed the procession for Rivera, by composing on Twitter that “I’m gonna inform my kids this is what fascism looks like.”
Both Rivera and his 27-year-old NYPD partner, Wilbert Mora, were shot and eliminated while reacting to a domestic disagreement in Harlem. Mora’s funeralservice was held about a week previous to Rivera’s funeral, with both drawing thousands of NYPD officers.
One of the biggest NYPD unions, the Police Benevolent Association, reacted to Sarandon’s preliminary Twitter post.
“This is what opportunity looks like: a rich starlet, safe in her bubble, mocking heroes & making light of the crisis that policeofficers are fighting alongwith our neighborhoods. NYC is joining to stop the violence — @SusanSarandon is living on a various world,” it composed.
The National Order of Fraternal Police included: “Of all the days for @SusanSarandon to share her real sensations towards cops, she selects the day we bury our fallen bro to make such inflammatory & brainless remarks. When you invest more time disliking on policeofficers than you do your own profession, it’s no marvel why you’re a D-list star.”
Meanwhile, theater starlet Jacqueline Guzman was let go from theater business Face to Face Films in late January after obviously publishing a TikTok video ranting about street closures throughout Rivera’s funeral, the company stated in a declaration.
Mora and Rivera were shot after a female called 911 and reported she was having an run-in with one of her boys inside her Harlem apartmentorcondo, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig stated in a late January news conference.
When they showedup, 47-year-old Lashawn McNeil was in the house bedroom, authorities stated. He quickly opened the door when the 2 officers approached and opened fire.
As McNeil ran away from the scene, a 3rd officer fired and struck him. McNeil was lateron pronounced dead at a close-by healthcenter.
In New York City, 7 NYPD officers haveactually been shot and 2 have passedaway so far in 2022, according to news reports.
