Big E and Kevin Owens to appear on WWE Raw

WWE Raw advertised follow-up to Big E’s heel turn last week, Bobby Lashley “continuing his path of destruction” and Becky Lynch reacting to her newest challenger in Liv Morgan, who became No. 1 Contender in a fatal 5-Way match last week.

Last week’s broadcast of WWE Raw garnered 1.549 million viewers.

Seth Rollins and The Usos def. Big E and Rated RK-Bro

In typical WWE fashion, these segments went from promo-to tag team-to six-man tag.

Sonya Deville said she was going to try something unorthodox by announcing a random tag team match, and if she thinks announcing impromptu tag team matches is unorthodox, she’s never watched Teddy Long a day in her life.

WWE impressively blended many storylines, including Big E vs. Kevin Owens; Big E vs. Seth Rollins; Big E vs. Roman Reigns and Randy Orton constantly having to save Riddle after Riddle sticks his nose in other peoples’ business.

Bianca Belair def. Tamina

Tamina challenged Bianca Belair to a match, literally out of nowhere. This made me realize that WWE had quietly split up Tamina and Natalya, who didn’t get nearly the run they deserved as Women’s tag team champions, but then again who does?

Bianca Belair really needed this type of clean victory over a monster like Tamina after months of questionable booking.

Doudrop as a heel, especially with her babyface music, is such a square peg in a round hole.

Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan Face Off

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair really need to come face-to-face to add the finishing touches to this feud. As CM Punk and Eddie Kingston taught us, all any match needs to get hot is one great, reality-based promo segment.

The Street Profits def. Alpha Academy

Every time I see Otis, circa 2021, it makes me miss Otis, circa 2019.

Queen Zelina def. Nikki A.S.H.

Corey Graves turns up his partisanship for Carmella more than any of his previous on-air biases (i.e. Mandy Rose and Charlotte Flair). At one point, Graves admitted he wasn’t even watching the match since Carmella was ringside. When Queen Zelina won this match after Nikki A.S.H. was distracted, Jimmy Smith referred to it as “pulling a Corey.”

Say what you will about Zelina Vega’s matches, but her Code Red finisher is one of the most protected finishers in women’s wrestling.

Rhea Ripley def. Carmella

This crowd really came alive when Rhea Ripley started squaring up with Carmella, indicating the two were about to have a match.

If I never watched wrestling a day in my life, I’d still be able to tell Corey Graves was in love with Carmella, just from his commentary tonight.

Carmella delivered an impressive, fairly stiff kick right in Rhea Ripley’s face, and it really helped get these fans into the match.

Kevin Owens def. Finn Balor

This is Kevin Owens’ first match as a heel, which means he’l likely get to win for a change.

This was easily the match of the night to this point. Owens and Finn Balor might have even stacked up to the high level of wrestling at AEW Full Gear.

AJ Styles and Omos def. The Dirty Dawgz

Following the break, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode cut a long-winded promo comparing Omos and AJ Styles to the movie Twins. It was one of the most useless promos I’ve ever seen in my life.

Dolph Ziggler added fringes to his ring gear, which is now reminiscent to Shawn Michaels and Randy Savage.

Bobby Lashley def. Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio walked out, and between all the backstage segments and vignettes, it felt like an eternity before I saw him again.

This match had a couple of “didn’t get all of it” moments, particularly from Rey Mysterio’s usually reliable Lucha spots.

Bobby Lashley completely dominated Rey Mysterio for the majority of this match, though it might have gone a little too long because it started to take this crowd out of the match.

The finish to this match was awesome as Lashley sat up from a pin while holding Mysterio and wrangled him into a Hurt Lock.

For storyline purposes, Lashley’s beatdown made sense as Rey Mysterio was medically replaced by heel Adam Pearce. Mysterio’s replacement? Austin Theory.
