‘Prey’ Trailer Reveals Predator Prequel’s Historical Sci-Fi Action – CNET
Predator prequel Prey got its first trailer on Monday, hinting at the movie’s historical sci-fi action. It comes straight to streaming on Aug. 5, landing on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus Star in other regions.
It’s set in the year 1719 and follows Naru, a young Native American warrior trying to protect her camp. She hunts one of the iconic alien Predators, who appears to wield the same advanced weaponry seen in the previous movies. Which kinda seems like cheating.
This adventure is helmed by Dan Trachtenberg, who previously directed 10 Cloverfield Lane and the first episode of The Boys. Hopefully Prey will be similarly visceral.
The original Predator came out in 1987, and saw Arnold Schwarzenegger battling one of the deadly creatures. There have been several sequels and crossovers (mostly famously with the Alien franchise) in the decades since — its most recent appearance was in 2018’s The Predator.
Prey follows members of the Comanche Nation, and Hulu noted in a release that the filmmakers were committed to crafting “an accurate portrayal” of the Native American tribe. Producer Jhane Myers is a member of the tribe, and the cast is “comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation’s talent.”
