Officials find plastic in organic smoothie product; company launches recall

PataFoods Inc. dba Amara is recalling Amara brand “Organic Smoothie Melts” from the marketplace because of the potential presence of pieces of plastic.

Canadian officials are concerned that consumers may still have the frozen products on hand because their expiration dates run into 2023.

Consumers should not consume the recalled product described below, according to the recall notice posted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The company reports that the carrot-raspberry smoothie product was distributed in the provinces of Alberta and Ontario, with national distribution possible.

“This recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products,” according to the recall notice.

As of the posting of the notice no injuries or other adverse effects had been reported in connection with the product.
