WASHINGTON— The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted $231,000 in grants to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) outreach.

” If kids can dream it, they can do it. It’s up to us to light the course for them,” stated FAA Deputy Administrator Bradley Mims.

Three grants are for universities to help with STEM outreach to trainees, specifically those who are under-represented in STEM and air travel fields. The schools will develop and carry out drone-centered immersion programs, summer season camps, after-school programs and neighborhood outreach efforts that will inform and motivate youth from primary, middle, and high schools.

The STEM outreach grants are granted to the following universities:

• North Carolina State University $ 125,000
• Kansas State University $ 100,000
• Sinclair Community College in Ohio $6,000

Today’s grants construct on the FAA’s efforts to motivate the next generation of pilots. Particular efforts consist of the FAA Adopt-A-School Program, Airport Design Challenge where trainees in K-12style airports utilizing the computer game Minecraft, the Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academies and the Youth in Aviation Task Force. Previously this year, the FAA granted$ 5 million in grants to money air travel classes at higher-education organizations, high schools, state and city governments and flight schools to establish the next generation of pilots.
