Colorado Public Radio Announces ‘Terra Firma’ Podcast

Terra Firma podcastColorado Public Radio revealed a brand-new short-form podcast pairing reflections on nature with soundscapes collected in wild locations. Terra Firma will include the stories of CMarie Furhman, a Colorado-born, Indigenous poet and author, with outside noises gathered on public lands by sound recordist Jacob Job.

“I can’t wait on listeners to hear this gorgeous and uncommon podcast,” stated Brad Turner, executive manufacturer of CPR’s podcasting and innovative audio system, the Audio Innovations Studio. “CMarie and Jacob are both extraordinary artists whose work assists individuals feel a much deeper connection to the outdoors and the natural world. I believe listeners will discover the episodes moving and thought-provoking.”

The episodes of Terra Firma are each 5-10 minutes long and are meant to offer listeners a short escape into nature and mindfulness. The program’s objective is to make the corrective power of nature available to podcast listeners.

Each episode includes reflection on nature from Fuhrman, whose writing is rooted in the landscape of the West. Fuhrman directs the poetry program and teaches nature writing at Western Colorado University, and she is the 2021-2023 Idaho Writer in Residence. She has actually invested her life in the mountains and shares her individual stories about elk, snow, birdsong and other elements of the natural world in the podcast.

Accompanying Fuhrman’s voice and words are sounds collected in nature by Dr. Jacob Job. Task is a conservationist, researcher and field recordist working to improve preservation efforts by engaging the general public on concerns associated with biodiversity, sustainability and land preservation and conservation utilizing natural noise recordings, education and stewardship.

He is a National Geographic Explorer, task lead of “Sounds of Your Park”, and manufacturer of Scientific American’s “National Park Nature Walks”. Task presently works as associate director of the Bird Genoscape Project, however invested the majority of his expert profession as a member of at the Sound and Light Ecology Team at Colorado State University.
